Data and code for Tradeoffs between electricity savings and nitrous oxide emissions for wastewater decarbonization and facility prioritization
Description
This repository provides public-source datasets and reproducible Python workflows for evaluating electricity–nitrous oxide tradeoffs and facility prioritization in wastewater treatment. The analyses quantify the nitrous oxide emission increment that offsets a specified electricity saving and compare facility portfolios under carbon and water-context objectives. The data cover 56,800 eligible facilities globally, 17,256 linked European records, and an engineering cohort of 2,246 facilities in 13 countries with measured annual wastewater volumes and pollutant loads.
The archive includes source snapshots and extracts from HydroWASTE, the European Environment Agency, Ember and WRI Aqueduct, together with a published compilation of nitrous oxide observations. It provides integrated input tables, analysis and figure-generating scripts, numerical reference outputs, a data dictionary, table and figure indexes, and source attribution. The workflows support both analysis from the supplied integrated inputs and reconstruction from the included public-source extracts. They reproduce emission-offset thresholds, portfolio carbon balances, constrained facility selection, sensitivity analyses, and the main and supplementary figures. Installation instructions, pinned dependencies and reproduction commands are provided in README.md.
