Description

Ultra-dense cellular IoT networks are reaching a breaking point where spectrum scarcity, severe co - channel interference, and battery limitations can no longer be addressed by conventional fixed-power resource allocation strategies. This paper tackles this challenge by proposing a State of Charge (SoC)-aware heuristic resource allocation and power control framework for IoT communications underpinning a cellular network. The main objective is to jointly preserve communication performance and battery sustainability in interference-limited environments. To this end, the resource allocation problem is formulated under Quality of Service (QoS), interference, and power constraints, and a low - complexity heuristic solution is developed. Unlike conventional approaches, the proposed framework explicitly integrates the SoC of IoT devices into the transmission decision process, together with channel conditions and interference levels, thereby enabling adaptive and energy-aware resource assignment. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme consistently improves throughput over the considered benchmark while preserving a high level of fairness and maintaining stable energy-efficiency behavior across different network densities and resource configurations. In addition, the proposed power adaptation mechanism significantly reduces unnecessary transmit power and converts this reduction into a measurable battery lifetime improvement. These findings demonstrate that SoC - aware radio resource management is a practical and effective solution for robust, fair, and energy-sustainable ultra-dense IoT deployments.
