Benchmarking and Classification of Multi-Source Metocean Datasets in the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea
Authors/Creators
Description
This study presents a benchmarking and classification of multiple metocean datasets for the northern Tyrrhenian Sea, combining in-situ measurements from oceanographic buoys with numerical model outputs collected within the AIMS monitoring project. The analysis evaluates the consistency, reliability and representativeness of different data sources using performance metrics including Root Mean Square Deviation (RMSD) and the Pearson correlation coefficient. The results compare the performance of ERA5, CMEMS and a local SWAN model, highlighting the importance of model resolution and regional characteristics for accurately representing metocean conditions in the Mediterranean Sea.
