Abstract (English)
Władysław Mystkowski (1838–1897) was one of the many heroes who struggled for Poland’s independence and sovereignty in the 19th century. His legacy was posthumously included in the collection of the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw. Objects from this unique collection document an extremely interesting biography. They include an excerpt from his birth certificate (MWP inventory no. 8719/1), a school certificate illustrating the course of his education (no. 8719/2), a passport documenting his stay in France (no. 8719/3) and a Certificate of Pilgrimage to the Holy Land, testifying to his long-term residence in the Ottoman Empire (no. 8719/4). From that period there is also a black-and-white photograph with Tufan Bey (no. 4150) and a uniform jacket of the Ottoman Cossack Dragoons (no. 7366/1). Mystkowski’s return to Polish lands is documented by a visiting card (no. 8719/6) and an obituary from 1897 (MWP, inv. no. 8719/5).
