Design and Manufacturing of a Small Turbojet Engine
Description
Design, analysis, and manufacturing of small-scale turbojet engine, which including centrifugal compressor, axial turbine, combustion chamber, exhaust nozzle, shaft. Dimensions of different components were carried out using thermodynamic cycle analysis, CAD modelling, CFD analysis (Analysis using ANSYS) and Structural analysis. All the main components were fabricated using 3D printing and assembled to form a prototype model.
The centrifugal compressor had a polytropic efficiency of 88.54 % and pressure ratio of 2.198 while the axial turbine had an isentropic efficiency of 83.405% and a pressure ratio of 3.832. The fabricated prototype generate a power of 392 kW with a power to weight ratio of 13.75 and the shaft bending analysis showed a safety margin of 34.56 % over its operating speed.
Project was carried out under the supervision of Prof. Manas Mohan Mahapatra, School of Mechanical Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar.
