The Astrophyzix Risk Index (ARI) v2 is a non-official, heuristic 0-100 scoring system developed by Astrophyzix Observatory for educational visualisation of Near-Earth Object (NEO) and PHA close approaches.
ARI does not estimate impact probability and is not a substitute for the Torino Scale or Palermo Technical Impact Hazard Scale.
Instead, it transforms live data from NASA's Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) into a deterministic, comparative score based on four physically meaningful contributors: miss distance, relative velocity, estimated diameter, and Potentially Hazardous Asteroid (PHA) status.
This system is live and fully auditable by clicking here to access the brandnew version 9 of the Advanced PHA and NEO Tracking and modelling console
Version 2 introduces logarithmic velocity scaling and reduces the PHA bonus from 30 to 18 points to avoid double-counting.
ARI is designed for real-time observatory interfaces, public engagement, and classroom use, providing an intuitive indicator of how dynamically 'noteworthy' an encounter is, while explicitly deferring all hazard assessment to NASA and ESA.
