EMBINT ANALYSIS WITH A MAPPING AND REPORT - Comprehensive analysis of the internationalisation of Higher Education Institutions in Europe

The Erasmus+ project EMBINT (Embedding Internationalisation in Higher Education Institutions), funded by the European Commission, aims to systemically anchor internationalisation in European universities. A central concern is the inclusion of
previously under-represented and under-internationalised employee groups, especially the professional and administrative staff (non-academic staff), which is often neglected in traditional internationalisation strategies. Major challenges addressed include the availability of internationalisation opportunities and their structural and strategic integration in Higher Education Institutions, as well as aspects of communication and cultural change as regards accessibility, staff engagement, and the process of selfexclusion.

The first part of the desk research report analyses the current state of internationalisation in European higher education,  identifies structural and individual barriers to participation in international activities and develops criteria for evaluating measures.

The second part presents a mapping of existing institutional structures and practices, including a categorisation of under-represented staff groups, a typology of measures, as well as a classification of offers by format (physical/virtual/blended), structure and target audience.

In a third part, instruments for assessing the internationalisation level of employee groups and individual employees are presented.
