Description

The Vera C. Rubin Observatory's LSST will conclude its decade-long survey in the mid-2030s. Rubin's rapid-cadence ToO infrastructure, wide field of view, and depth will remain uniquely valuable to the astronomy and physics community beyond the post-LSST era. This white paper, prepared for the Rubin 2036 Workshop, lays out the multi-messenger science case for continued Rubin operations after LSST, set against the arrival of third-generation gravitational-wave detectors (Cosmic Explorer, Einstein Telescope), the LISA mission, next-generation neutrino observatories (IceCube-Gen2, KM3NeT, DUNE, Hyper-Kamiokande), and maturing pulsar timing arrays  (SKAO, IPTA).
