Description

This record has been superseded. Its version 1.0.0 framing was incorrect and has been withdrawn. The dataset is replaced by the Global Power-Plant Climate Exposure Screening Index (CESI), 10.5281/zenodo.22172589.

What was wrong. Version 1.0.0 described its per-plant classes as an "indicative ISO 9223 atmospheric-corrosivity class" computed "via the ISO 9223:2012 informative method". ISO 9223:2012 classifies corrosivity from measured dose-response inputs: time of wetness, SO2 deposition and airborne chloride deposition. None of those are measured here. The values are derived from open climate data only - a wetness proxy from the Koppen-Geiger class and temperature, a marine-chloride proxy from distance to coast, plus heat, thermal-cycling, UV and dust terms with fixed weights. Presenting that output as an ISO 9223 category overstated its basis.

What replaces it. CESI publishes the same screening layer with an accurate description and its own scale (CES1 very low to CESX extreme), explicitly not an ISO 9223 implementation. It ships the reference implementation of the full model so every value is reproducible, and corrects an order-dependent caching artifact in the coast-distance computation that moved a small number of plants across class thresholds.

What has not changed. Version 1.0.0 and its data files remain permanently citable at their own version DOI (10.5281/zenodo.20730285); Zenodo records are immutable and existing citations continue to resolve. This new version exists so that the concept DOI, which always resolves to the newest version, no longer presents the withdrawn framing as current.
