Description

Summary

GasLibE-39 is a compact, artificial gas transport network test instance developed at the Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) within the Research Campus MODAL GasLab and EnergyLab (funded by the BMBF, grant numbers 05M14ZAM and 05M20ZBM).

Although formatted according to the standard GasLib XML specifications (https://gaslib.zib.de/), this dataset was developed independently to evaluate mathematical formulations, station modeling, and algorithmic strategies for real-world gas network transport problems.

Network Topology & Characteristics

Despite its compact size, the network was specifically designed to enable complex gas routing options and diverse operational flow patterns:

Nodes & Arcs: 39 nodes and 41 arcs.
Components: 28 pipes, 7 valves, 4 control valves (regulators), and 2 compressor stations.
Network Backbone: A circular ring of pipes with no principal flow direction, allowing bidirectional (clockwise and counter-clockwise) gas transport along every pipe segment. The network features two low-pressure areas with restricted upper
pressure bounds on the corresponding nodes.

Demand Scenarios

The dataset includes 10 stationary demand scenarios with significant mutual structural differences.

Primary Reference & Citation Requirement

If you use this dataset in your research, please cite the underlying doctoral dissertation:

Note: An earlier release of this dataset was distributed simply as GasLib-39. Except for updated instance naming to clarify its status as a GasLib extension, the underlying network and scenario files are identical to the previous distribution.
