Tsimane Skill Ontogeny (2015) dataset

Authors/Creators

Description

Individual-level data from a Skills Survey of Tsimane forager-horticulturalists in the Bolivian Amazon, supporting Schniter et al. (2015), "Skill ontogeny among Tsimane forager-horticulturalists," American Journal of Physical Anthropology 158(1):3-18. The survey, fielded in 2006-07 across eight villages, recorded each participant's possession and self-rated proficiency for 92 essential skills, the recalled age of acquisition for each skill, and demographic covariates. Two files are included: an anonymized participant-by-skill dataset, with parallel proficiency and acquisition-age blocks plus demographics, and a skill-level codebook giving the skill inventory and its attributes (difficulty, strength, category, and vanishing status) along with a column mapping the data's skill numbering to the numbering used in the article. Skill-level analysis results are not included; they are reproducible from the participant data. Access is restricted and granted by permission; see the access conditions.
