Second-Phase Global Perspective (SPGP) Protocol: VR Co-Creation and Intercultural Dialogue for Environmental Engagement (DH2026 Presentation Slides)

Presentation slides for a short-paper session at DH2026 (Digital Humanities Conference 2026, Daejeon, Republic of Korea), delivered on 30 July 2026.

The talk introduces the Second-Phase Global Perspective (SPGP) protocol, which asks how the awe of seeing Earth from space — the Overview Effect — can be rebuilt on the ground, as a way of bridging the knowledge–action gap in environmental engagement. In SPGP, communities in three contrasting environmental worlds — Kikai Island (Japan, sea), Baka communities (Cameroon, forest), and the Atacama Desert (Chile, desert/night sky) — co-create VR representations of their own environments, immerse themselves in each other's worlds, and then meet in structured dialogue. The slides present the protocol design, early field observations, and the first three-site connected experiment (October 2026), which combines psychological measures (perceived planetary continuity, self-relevance, psychological distance) with qualitative data from dialogue. The long-term vision is a "living planetary museum": hundreds of regions authoring their own environmental worlds, connecting local and traditional knowledge on each community's own terms.
