Description

About this Course

These materials are from a reproducible research course taught at the University of California, San Francisco in the Fall of 2022 by members of the UCSF Library. The course was for graduate students, and was designed to satisfy NIH Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training requirements.

Course Description

This course will introduce reproducibility in the biomedical sciences and equip students with tools and strategies to increase the transparency of their research. Students will learn how to use data management plans as a tool for organizing their research, and by the end of the class will have created a plan that meets NIH grant requirements. Throughout the course students will learn about the fundamentals of research reproducibility; how to organize data files, research protocols, literature searches, and software code; how and where to find and share data; how to publish and satisfy funder and other open access mandates; and how to get credit for and promote their work using scholarly platforms.  Students will engage with the material via lecture, hands-on workshops, case study discussions, and project work.

Course Learning Objectives

By the end of this course learners will be able to:
    •    Write a data management plan for research that incorporates best practices for data organization, storage, sharing, and security.
    •    Design and implement an organization system for data, methods and code.
    •    Identify and use an appropriate open repository for data, code, scholarly articles, and/or methods
