DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION AS A CATALYST FOR BRAND DEVELOPMENT: STRATEGIC INSIGHTS FROM EMERGING MARKETS
Description
Digital transformation is frequently presented as a decisive driver of brand equity in emerging markets, yet the empirical record is inconsistent. Firms invest heavily in digital platforms, analytics, and customer-facing technologies without producing commensurate gains in brand strength, while smaller firms occasionally outperform digitally mature competitors on brand- related indicators. This paper interrogates that inconsistency. Drawing on a structured synthesis of literatures on digital transformation, brand equity, digital customer experience, and emerging- market marketing, and grounded in dynamic capabilities theory, the paper develops the Digital Transformation Brand Catalyst (DTBC) framework. The framework specifies that digital transformation operates as a conditional catalyst: its effect on brand development is mediated by customer-experience integration and organisational capabilities, and moderated by digital maturity, strategic clarity, sector characteristics, and contextual market conditions.
