Description
This working paper introduces communicative awareness as an original analytical category within the field of political and strategic communication studies. After situating the concept within the existing literature - with particular reference to Bateson's metacommunication, Habermas's communicative competence, and Freire's conscientização - the paper proposes a formal definition, articulates its analytical components and its temporal and relational dimensions, and discusses its relationship with the paradox of the expert communicator. The working paper demonstrates how communicative awareness constitutes the prerequisite condition for the effective exercise of communication governance and for the operational use of the frame adoptability model α(F) = f(κ, σ, τ, φ). The paper concludes with a prospective discussion of the implications of the concept for artificial intelligence-mediated political communication, with particular reference to the governance of humanization as a central theme of the ongoing research programme.
