Nuttall, G.H.F. & Warburton, C. (1908) On a new genus of Ixodoidea together with a description of eleven new species. Proceedings of the Cambridge Philosophical Society, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 14, 392–416.

Type depository: BMNH: a lectotype (male) and paralectotypes (a male and females) were designated by Keirans & Brewster (1981)

Type locality: Puerto Cooper, Paraguay

Type host: Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris

Current status: a synonym of Amblyomma dubitatum (Camicas et al. 1998, Estrada-Peña et al. 2002).

Comments: Keirans & Brewster (1981), Keirans & Hillyard (2001) and other authors treated Amblyomma cooperi as a valid species.
