Description

arnoldi Theiler & Zumpt, 1950, Rhipicephalus

In: Zumpt, F. (1950) Preliminary study to a revision of the genus Rhipicephalus Koch. Key to the adult ticks of the genus Rhipicephalus and description of two new species. Moçambique, 60, 57–169. [This paper is usually listed as having been published in 1949.]

Type depositories: OVI, ZMB and ZSH: syntypes (females) (Moritz & Fischer 1981, Walker et al. 2000); MCZ: paratypes (females)

Type locality: Toverwater, Murraysburg, Western Cape Province, South Africa

Type host: Lepus sp. or Pronolagus sp.

Comments: all stages were described from laboratory-reared specimens, but the depositories of the specimens, apart from the females, are not stated. No holotype was designated in the original description in Zumpt (1950), but Moritz & Fischer (1981) and Walker et al. (2000) listed the types in ZMB and ZSH as paratypes, although they are treated here as syntypes.
