Description
Abstract
This article analyzes teaching in the digital era, with emphasis on professional competencies, challenges arising from the incorporation of technologies, and possibilities for innovation in teachers’ work. This is a qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive study developed through bibliographic and documentary research, using the deductive method and thematic analysis of the selected sources. The study is grounded in contributions from authors who discuss the knowledge required for teaching and the integration of technology, pedagogy, and content, as well as institutional documents addressing teachers’ digital competencies. The results indicate that professional practice in the digital context requires more than operational mastery of technological tools, involving the ability to select resources, evaluate information, produce materials, use technologies ethically, and articulate different forms of knowledge according to educational objectives. The study also found that continuing education, institutional infrastructure, and technical support are relevant factors for the appropriate integration of technologies. Artificial intelligence offers new possibilities for planning and producing educational materials, but it requires supervision, information validation, and attention to privacy, authorship, and data security. It is concluded that technology should function as a support resource for teaching practice, while the quality of pedagogical decisions remains dependent on teachers’ knowledge, training, and professional responsibility.
