IMKT Glossary

Overview:
This record contains the formal SKOS (Simple Knowledge Organization System) concept scheme developed for the semantic annotation of tribological and materials science experimental data at the Institute for Machine Design and Tribology (IMKT), Leibniz University Hannover. It provides a shared, machine-readable vocabulary for describing laboratory equipment, experimental procedures, sample types, and manufacturing processes within friction and wear research.

Data Structure:
This vocabulary is structured to support the semantic linking of experimental data and provenance metadata. The record includes:

• concept_scheme.ttl: The master definition file containing the complete organizational hierarchy of the vocabulary, utilizing SKOS and Schema.org standards.
• glossary.zip: An archive containing individual concepts as discrete Turtle files, enabling the selective import of specific entities into external knowledge graphs with high granularity.

Usage:
This vocabulary is maintained to provide persistent, unambiguous identifiers for laboratory equipment, physical processes, and measurement parameters. It is actively employed to map sample provenance and experimental parameters in our research datasets, ensuring that data is self-describing and interoperable. An example concept from the concept scheme is provided below:
