The Collected Mathematical Papers of James Joseph Sylvester, Volume I (1837–1853) — Complete English Reader

Complete English reader. This directly readable 529-page edition contains the authentic front matter, Papers 1-68, the Editor's Note, and the Cambridge printer imprint through scholarly book p.650. Papers printed in English are retained; only the fully French Papers 44, 55, and 56 are translated directly from the French authority. Mathematics, numbering, notation, historical notices, and documented printed anomalies are preserved.

Verification and typography. The reader uses ordinary 10-point book typography on 7.25 by 10 inch pages. Two-pass build and static audits report no fatal errors, warnings, overfull boxes, missing characters, MediaBox overflow, or accidental blank pages. Exact source markers cover book pp.1-650, with only the intentional duplicate p.39 shared by Papers 5 and 6. All final pages were rendered; the nine pages that differ from the source-language reader are exactly the translated contents/body pages and were individually inspected.

Files and provenance. The PDF is directly readable. The compact source/QA ZIP contains buildable TeX, required tight figure assets, final build/static/translation receipts, and exact manifests. It contains no authority scan and no full-page scan facsimiles. The canonical scan and non-body topology pp.651-658 are identified by SHA-256 in the provenance file.

This is a source-witnessed modern English reader, not a critical edition. It is a complete translation companion to the source-language concept DOI 10.5281/zenodo.20520692. Correction reports should identify the record DOI, edition, paper number, and scholarly book page so they remain actionable independently of any code-hosting service.
