Cost-of-living Crisis and Suicide

  • 1. ROR icon The University of Melbourne

Description

This project aimed to determine whether the cost-of-living crisis is associated with suicide rates in multiple countries and areas-within-countries. To achieve this, we obtained country- and area-within-country-level monthly suicide data, monthly headline consumer price index (CPI) data and population denominators.

Here, we supply:

  1. raw suicide data that has been approved for public release. Cells with suicide counts less than five have been suppressed, along with any other cells that would allow their recalculation. Zero counts have been retained. Due to missing data, any reanalysis will not necessarily align with the published results.
  2. 2. R code that loads the raw data and contains a data dictionary.
