From HAS-BLED to SH-BRAT: Bridging the Bleeding Risk Gap with the First Universal Nurse-Led Tool
Description
This record archives the published journal article "From HAS-BLED to SH-BRAT: Bridging the Bleeding Risk Gap with the First Universal Nurse-Led Tool" for long-term preservation and open scientific dissemination.
This comparative review evaluates the Selwan Hamza's Bleeding Risk Assessment Tool (SH-BRAT) against established bleeding risk assessment models, including HAS-BLED, ORBIT, CRUSADE, and IMPROVE. The article examines differences in conceptual design, scoring systems, clinical applicability, workflow integration, and suitability for routine nursing practice.
The review demonstrates that SH-BRAT addresses a significant gap in bedside nursing by providing a simple, standardized, and evidence-based framework for early bleeding risk identification across hospitalized patients. Unlike physician-oriented assessment tools developed for specific clinical populations, SH-BRAT is designed to support universal nurse-led screening, facilitate timely clinical decision-making, and strengthen patient safety through routine nursing assessment.
By bridging the gap between traditional physician-centered bleeding risk models and practical nursing workflows, this article highlights the role of standardized nursing assessment tools in advancing evidence-based nursing practice and improving healthcare quality.
