Description

This dataset contains the contributions collected during a World Café session held at the ABM4Energy Conference 2026 at BOKU University in Vienna, Austria.

The workshop brought together approximately 40 researchers and practitioners from nine countries, representing a broad range of career stages, from PhD students and early-career researchers to senior academics and industry stakeholders.

The discussion was structured around the following prompts:

  1. Table 1: Where is ABM uniquely irreplaceable?
    • What energy transition questions produce “wrong” or incomplete answers without ABM?
    • Could a model of any other method answer this just as well?
  2. Table 2: What prevents broader adoption?
    • Methodological, data, validation, and credibility barriers
    • What would you tell a skeptical reviewer who questions your choice of ABM?
  3. Table 3: What are lessons learned and next steps?
    • What has ABM delivered/achieved and where has it overpromised?
    • What should the community prioritize in the next 2–3 years, and in the long term?
    • Would you recommend ABM to a PhD student or colleague entering this field and under what conditions?
