Intrinsic Adaptation: Do Woven Living Muscle Tissues Naturally Hypertrophy Under Load?
Description
We argue that woven living muscle tissue, created through the fourth route (Composite Living Fiber fusion via Myomaker/Myomerger), necessarily exhibits adaptive hypertrophy under mechanical load. The fusion machinery that builds the tissue is the same machinery that drives satellite cell-mediated growth and repair in adult muscle. The designer's role is not to build capability (N), but to remove constraints (D): eliminate the scaffold, dissolve interfaces, and create space for cells to express their intrinsic capabilities. As D approaches zero, the tissue's value diverges—not because of what was built, but because of what was liberated. This principle of design as liberation rather than imposition connects the fourth route to the V=N/D framework and has implications for the longevity and functional integration of woven tissue implants.
