DETERMINANTS OF ACADEMIC STAFF WORK EFFICIENCY: A HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PERSPECTIVE

This study examines the key Human Resource Management (HRM) factors influencing the work
efficiency of academic staff in higher education institutions. In today’s knowledge-based economy, universities
are expected to enhance teaching quality, research productivity, and institutional performance while adapting
to rapid technological and organizational changes. Effective human resource management plays a vital role in
improving academic staff performance by fostering a supportive work environment and promoting continuous
professional development.
The study investigates the influence of professional development and training, research support, leadership
support, workload balance, compensation, career development opportunities, performance evaluation systems,
work–life balance, and the institutional environment on the work efficiency of academic staff. A quantitative
research approach was employed using survey data collected from academic staff at higher education
institutions. Statistical techniques, including reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression
analysis, were applied to identify the most significant determinants of work efficiency.
The findings indicate that professional development, balanced workload, leadership support, compensation,
career development opportunities, work–life balance, and a supportive institutional environment have a positive
and statistically significant influence on academic staff work efficiency. In contrast, research support and
performance evaluation systems exhibit comparatively weaker effects. The study contributes to the Human
Resource Management literature by providing empirical evidence from the higher education sector and offers
practical recommendations for university administrators and policymakers to strengthen HRM practices aimed
at improving organizational effectiveness and academic performance
