Differential weighting of lion vocalizations and oxpecker alarm calls in giraffes

This repository contains the source data underlying the manuscript Differential weighting of lion vocalizations and oxpecker alarm calls in giraffes (Baotic, 2026, Behavioral Ecology, in press). The dataset includes behavioral observations from playback experiments conducted on free-ranging Southern giraffes (Giraffa giraffa) in Lapalala Wilderness, South Africa, between July and September 2024.

The repository contains:

• Source_data_-_Overall_response_model.csv (dataset used for the overall playback response model and lion–oxpecker playback subset model)
• Source_data_-_Preceding_playback_context_model.csv (dataset used for the preceding playback context model)
• Source_data.xlsx (combined workbook containing all datasets)
• README.txt providing detailed metadata, variable descriptions, software versions, package versions, and references required to reproduce the analyses.

The data are released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license.
