MODULATION IN TRANSLATION BETWEEN ENGLISH AND RUSSIAN LANGUAGES
Authors/Creators
Description
This work discussed one of the most important techniques named
modulation. It helps translators to achieve naturalness and dynamic equivalence between
two different languages. Because modulation allows translators to change the point of view
or cognitive category without altering the underlying meaning, while literal translation often
may sound awkward. As we know it is due to cultural, structural, grammatical differences
between languages. By analyzing specific examples from translated books, the paper
demonstrates how shifting perspectives opens door to preserve communicative intent and
produces fluent Russian translations.
