On a Biologically Important Influence Exercised by the Carbon Dioxide Tension of the Blood on Its Oxygen Binding (Russian Translation of the 1904 Classic)

Description

Zusammenfassung / Abstract

[EN] This work presents a complete academic Russian translation of the classic 1904 article by Chr. Bohr, K. Hasselbalch, and A. Krogh. In this study, the authors provided experimental evidence for the dependence of hemoglobin's affinity for oxygen on the partial pressure of carbon dioxide — a phenomenon previously discovered in 1892 by the Russian physiologist B. F. Verigo and known today as the "Verigo-Bohr effect." Investigating fresh canine blood with potassium oxalate, the authors detailed how an increase in CO₂ tension reduces the blood's oxygen-binding capacity at low pressures, whereas this effect is neutralized at 150 mm Hg.

This document consists of two parts: the first half contains the Russian translation, and the second half contains the complete original version of the paper in German.
