Programmatic Accrediting Bodies in the United States

This document lists programmatic (specialized) accrediting bodies operating in the United States. Programmatic accreditors evaluate individual educational programs within a field or profession, as distinguished from institutional accreditors, which evaluate colleges and universities as a whole. The list was compiled in 2023 because no comprehensive list of programmatic accrediting bodies could be identified. Existing listings, such as those maintained by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, include only the accreditors that those organizations recognize. The list draws on publicly available online sources, including the websites of individual accrediting organizations. It is intended as an illustrative resource rather than an exhaustive or authoritative registry, and organizations may have merged, been renamed, or ceased operations since compilation.
