Technical Advances in the Short-Term Oil Generation Paradigm for Rapid Resource Unlocking in Brownfield Assets
Authors/Creators
Description
The short-term oil generation paradigm for brownfield petroleum assets prioritizes rapid identification and execution of the highest-return, shortest-cycle interventions that maximize near-term cash flow per unit of capital deployed from existing producing infrastructure. This narrative review proposes the Brownfield Value Acceleration Model, a time-value-of-production economic mapping instrument organizing available brownfield interventions by production response cycle time and capital efficiency. The review synthesizes advances in reservoir decline analysis, residual oil zone identification, infill drilling screening, workover candidate selection, artificial lift optimization, and waterflood pattern modification. Niger Delta brownfield evidence demonstrates that growth-fault-bounded reservoir compartments harbor significant residual oil potential accessible to targeted short-term generation programs. Machine learning screening, IoT monitoring, supply chain execution, safety management, and AI-augmented anomaly detection are evaluated as enabling technologies. Tables summarize intervention types and digital screening tool characteristics. A framework diagram depicts the Brownfield Value Acceleration Model.
