Area Under the Curve

Jay tightened the tattered canvas straps of his heavy pack and gazed at the jagged ridgeline that violently bisected the light dawn sky. It was a difficult climb, a cruel spine of granite that had bested better, stronger trekkers than his. But today Jay wasn’t seeing the mountain as one, insurmountable challenge. He was seeing it differently, dividing the huge journey down into tiny manageable chunks.
