Coping Equilibrium and Stability Margins in Biological Systems: A Conceptual Framework for Predictive Control

Abstract
We introduce a conceptual framework for analyzing stability and transition dynamics in
biological systems, termed the Ruin Horizon Framework (RHF). The model focuses on
identifying a coping equilibrium—a dynamic balance between system stressors and
adaptive capacity—and estimating proximity to critical instability transitions. Without
disclosing implementation-specific details, we outline how such a framework may enable
earlier detection of regime shifts and support decision-making in clinical and
biotechnological contexts. Retrospective analyses suggest strong predictive signal
structures when nonlinear interactions are considered.
