Data and code for "Mapping Urban Energy Transitions: Decoding Solar PV Potential, Energy Burden, and Socio-Demographic Dimensions in the Athens Metropolitan Area"

Description

This repository contains the data, analysis code, and derived outputs supporting the manuscript “Mapping Urban Energy Transitions: Decoding Solar PV Potential, Energy Burden, and Socio-Demographic Dimensions in the Athens Metropolitan Area.”

The repository supports the municipality-level assessment of rooftop photovoltaic (PV) potential, electricity consumption, PV adequacy, energy burden, and CO₂-equivalent emission savings across the Athens Metropolitan Area (AMA). The analysis integrates socio-demographic determinants (population, population density, and residents per building), socio-economic determinants (annual household income and energy cost), and urban morphological determinants (municipal area and number of buildings).

The analytical workflow includes percentile-based classification of the selected determinants into decile classes and Low, Medium, and High (LMH) categories, spatial analysis and mapping, and regression-based assessment of relationships between the determinants and energy metrics.

The repository is organized into three directories: data/, containing the datasets and geospatial information used in the analysis; code/, containing the Jupyter notebooks and Python scripts used for analysis, spatial mapping, and figure generation; and outputs/, containing the derived analytical outputs supporting the results presented in the manuscript.

Further information on the repository structure, data sources, and analysis workflow is provided in the accompanying README.md.
