Post-Civil War Trading And Industrial Activities Among Arondizuogu People

Abstract

Prior to the outbreak of Nigeria-Biafra war in 1967, Arondizuogu was replete with a plethora of successful businessmen and women whose astuteness and enterprising spirits were second to none. Their quality of trading and industrial activities impacted hugely, not only on the economy of Arondizuogu community but also on the economy of Nigeria as a whole. The ravages of the civil war impinged tremendously on the people’s trading and industrial experience, thereby causing a sharp decline in the quality of trading and industrial activities among them. This paper, by adopting historical, social and psychological approaches, seeks to investigate among others, pre-civil war trading and industrial activities among Arondizuogu people; Arondizuogu civil war experience; post-civil war economy of Arondizuogu; and Post civil war trading and industrial activities among Arondizuogu people.  The paper concludes by remarking that lack of mutual cooperation, selfish interest and mismanagement of fund among Arondizuogu business men and women were among the factors that led to the collapse of many businesses and industries in post-civil war Arondizuogu society. The paper recommends among others, synergy of business ideas and efforts among Arondizuogu contemporary business men and industrialists for the resuscitation of business activities and maximum productivity among them.
