Description
Agudus unicifer sp. nov.

Description. Body length: male 4.7 mm, female 4.7–5.0 mm. Color: face medium brown with pale muscle scars, crown tan with pair of bright red submedial stripes extended from apex posterad, continuing over pronotum onto mesonotum, thin brown median line corresponding to coronal suture extended as thin reddish line across pronotum and mesonotum, pronotum with sublateral pair of less conspicuous red stripes; forewing with dark brown spot in clavus posterad of crossvein, in inner discal cell and in inner anteapical cell, spots extended into adjacent cells in some specimens. Male crown 1.3× longer than width between eyes, female crown 1.5× longer than width between eyes. Forewing short, exposing at least two pregenital abdominal tergites in both male and female; outer anteapical cell truncate apically, apical cells very short. Male pygofer 2× longer than basal height in lateral view, without basal apodemes, macrosetae scattered over entire surface except dorsally near base, apex broadly rounded, ventral margin with broad rounded lobe near base, straight in distal two thirds, inner surface without sclerotized bars or lobes. Anal tube short, cylindrical, well sclerotized laterally and dorsally. Subgenital plate half as long as pygofer, narrowly triangular with lateral margin concave, macrosetal row near lateral margin. Connective 2.5× longer than wide in ventral view, anterior arms evenly divergent, then abruptly convergent and fused near apex; stem broad and very short, truncate posteriorly. Style with preapical lobe short and broadly rounded, apophysis narrow and flattened, curved laterad, apex blunt. Aedeagus with dorsal apodeme in lateral view slender and moderately long, curved anterad, triangular in posterior view; shaft tubular, extended posteroventrad then curved posterodorsad, abruptly broadened with arcuate transverse carina on dorsal surface preapically, distal part tapered in ventral and lateral views with pair of slender spines extended distad from acute apex; gonopore preapical on dorsal surface. Female sternite VII posterior margin with pair of rounded lateral lobes flanking broad, shallow concave medial emargination.
Etymology. The species name is a Latin noun meaning “hook bearer”, referring to the hooklike aedeagus.
Material examined. Holotype male, PARAGUAY: Missiones, 191 km N. Encenada, 174 km S. Anuncion, 31 May 1975 [INHS]. Paratypes: same data as holotype (1 male, 5 females)[INHS]. Other material: PARAGUAY: NW Asuncion, 2 km E Limpio, at light, 17 June 1975 Elzinga, Granovsky & Blocker (2 females) [INHS]; ARGENTINA: Entre Rios, P.N. El Palmar, Mirador Ao.
