Agudus cyrtobrachium Cheng, 1980: 72, syn. nov.

Description. Length of male 4.3–4.5 mm, female 4.8–5.1 mm. Color: face dark brown with pale muscle scars; crown brown with black apical macula and paired stramineous longitudinal stripes extended posterad from midlength across pronotum and mesonotum, with additional pair of alternating light and dark stripes more laterad on pronotum and mesonotum; forewing with black macula on clavus posterad of crossvein, in inner discal cell and middle anteapical cell, with additional less distinct spots in other cells. Crown 1.8 to 2.0× longer than width between eyes in male and female, respectively. Forewing extended to but not covering pygofer in male and female, outer anteapical cell narrowed but not petiolate apically. Male pygofer slightly more than twice as long as maximum height, apex of lobe tapered posterodorsally, with well-sclerotized process arising preapically and extended anteroventrad with apex tapered and curved slightly laterad, macrosetae scattered throughout length of lobe.Anal tube unmodified.Subgenital plate extended slightly more than half distance to apex of pygofer, lateral margin concave, macrosetae marginal, distributed over entire length of plate. Style with preapical lobe prominent, apex digitiform strongly curved laterad. Connective constricted near midlength, stem weakly developed, posterior margin rounded. Aedeagus with dorsal apodeme relatively short and slender; shaft tubular, moderately slender, curved evenly dorsad, tapered apically in lateral view, with pair of slender dorsally curved processes extended basad along dorsal margin of shaft and pair of shorter acuminate apical processes extended distad and curved slightly laterad in ventral view; gonopore slender, preapical on dorsal surface. Female sternite VII with lateral margins evenly convergent posteriorly, posterior margin shallowly concave with pair of distinct sublateral maculae.

Notes. This species was originally described based only on females from Misiones Province, Argentina. Comparison of the holotype female to a series of recently collected males and females from northern Argentina (Corrientes) revealed that A. cyrtobrachium Cheng is a junior synonym of A. typicus. Males matching Cheng’s (1980) description and illustrations of A. cyrtobrachium were collected in association with females having the distinctive shape and markings of the pregenital abdominal segment identical to that of the female holotype of A. typicus in the U.S. National Museum. Agudus cyrtobrachium was described based on three male specimens from Paraguay.
