Description
This document summarizes the results of a meeting of cryobiologists and biostasis practitioners held on May 18, 2026 in Berkeley.
While reversible cryopreservation of organs has many beneficial applications, we here provide a classification for measuring progress toward biostasis of human persons, by scaling existing techniques to relevant biological systems of increasing scale. Beyond the brain, our classification particularly emphasizes the intermediate step of neuro-motor preservation (extension to the spinal cord, peripheral nervous system and the musculoskeletal system), prior to the common focus on the preservation of transplantable organs.
