The Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute: A Study in the Context of Indian Knowledge System

The Indian Knowledge System (IKS) represents the accumulated intellectual traditions of India encompassing philosophy, literature, science, law, and spirituality preserved through ancient texts and manuscripts. The Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute (BORI) in Pune is one of the most important institutions dedicated to the preservation, study, and dissemination of this knowledge. Established in 1917 in honour of the eminent scholar Ramakrishna Gopal Bhandarkar, the institute has become a global centre for Ideological research. Its vast manuscript collection and landmark projects such as the Critical Edition of the Mahabharata have significantly contributed to the study of Indian civilization.
