Questionnaire for the evaluation of severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) surveillance within SiVIRA, the Spanish Acute Respiratory Infection Surveillance System, 2025

This record contains the full research instrument used to evaluate the hospital-based component of SiVIRA, the Spanish Acute Respiratory Infection Surveillance System. SiVIRA conducts sentinel surveillance of acute respiratory infection in primary care and of severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) in hospitals. The hospital-based component operates across a decentralised network of 50 hospitals in 18 regions.

Two questionnaires were administered in a single round between January and May 2025, one to the coordinators of all 18 Regional Public Health Authorities (RPHA) and one to the eligible participating hospitals of the SiVIRA network. They evaluated the system as set out in the national SARI surveillance protocol for the 2024/25 season [1]. Each comprised two parts. Part 1 (Sections 1 to 7) covered the structure and operation of the system, from case ascertainment through to data validation. Part 2 (Sections 8 to 14) covered the qualitative attributes of the system, the analysis of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) and the overall assessment.

The two questionnaires are reproduced here as a single combined instrument, in the order in which they were administered. It may be reused, adapted and translated with attribution under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence. It was designed for a decentralised, hospital-based SARI surveillance network and will require adaptation to other SARI surveillance settings. It was administered in Spanish and the version deposited here is an English translation. No individual participant responses are included in this record.
