Replication package for UEFA EURO 2024 and Foreign Guest Nights in German Host Regions

This record contains the replication package for the article “UEFA EURO 2024 and Foreign Guest Nights in German Host Regions: Evidence across accommodation channels”.

The study estimates the short-run differential change in tourist guest nights in the ten German NUTS 2 regions containing a UEFA EURO 2024 host city relative to the other German NUTS 2 regions. Monthly Eurostat data for official tourist accommodation and platform-booked short stays are analysed separately by domestic and foreign guest origin. The preferred specification uses 12-month changes in log guest nights with region and year-month fixed effects.

The package includes the processed and source-derived datasets, region and match coding, the complete R analysis, a dependency lockfile, machine-readable result tables, publication figures, data-quality checks, a variable dictionary and the supplementary material. The design identifies host-region effects and does not identify a Germany-wide net tourism effect.

Source data: Eurostat datasets tour_occ_nin2m and tour_ce_omn12, the Eurostat NUTS 2024 classification, and official UEFA EURO 2024 match and host-city information.
