FORMATION AND ECOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF CORAL REEFS: A CONTEMPORARY RESEARCH PERSPECTIVE

Coral and coral reefs represent the primitive group of animals from non-Chordata. Analysis of researches on coral reef and their development, diversity and survival threats globally have been carried out. We have identified various aspects of significant contributions these pretty animals ensure. Increased water temperature and mass bleaching events have also been extensively reviewed in relation to the survival of these coelenterates. The interactions between human beings and coral reefs have been thoroughly evaluated. The biological underpinnings and creation of coral reefs, their ecological and economic functions and the urgent issues they face are all deliberated here. This research article endeavours to discuss management plans of these corals in the changing environment and device new strategies for required conservation and restoration efforts.
