Description
The post-operative shivering treatment by intravenous lidocaine use The authors review the main pathogenetic hypotheses of post-operative shivering and the till now proposed treatments and describe a preliminary study with intravenous lidocaine administred at low doese (20-40 mg) in 18 patients with good results in 14 (77,8 %) cases. The authors emphasize the lack of undesirable effects of lidocaine when used with these dose, and suggest a few suggestive explanations for these results, hypothesizing a neuromodulator ability of local anaesthetics in low concentration.
