Glossary of Core Concepts. Definitions for research on emotions, protection, and democratic governance

Description

This document presents the PROTEMO Glossary of Core Concepts, a structured compilation of core concepts that underpin the project’s theoretical framework on the emotional dynamics of protective policies. The glossary systematises key terms across political science, social psychology, sociology, and communication studies, including emotional needs, emotional policy entrepreneurs, social representations, protective policies, (in)security, citizenship, and policy responsiveness.
Grounded in the core concepts of the PROTEMO framework, the glossary provides conceptual clarity and terminological coherence for analysing the interplay between emotions, politics, and policymaking. By offering interdisciplinary definitions supported by foundational and contemporary scholarship, this deliverable serves as a reference tool for researchers, practitioners, and policy analysts working on politics and emotions. It contributes to cumulative knowledge-building by establishing a shared conceptual language for empirical research, comparative analysis, and theoretical advancement in the study of emotional dynamics in democratic governance.
