WORKLOAD, REST, AND WELL-BEING AMONG NURSE EDUCATORS IN THE COLLEGES OF NURSING IN PRIVATE HIGHER EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN REGION IV-A

Description

This study dealth with workload, rest, and well-being among 356 nurse educators in private higher education institutions in CALABARZON was examined. Using the descriptive- correlational design, the study evaluated demographic profile, workload perceptions, multi dimensional rest , ad well-being in order to formulate a scientifically-based course of action for promoting faculty well-being. Findings indicate an overwhelming proportion of women respondents at 76.10% and high levels of experience with 28.9% having worked over 30 years. The findings further indicate that the educators were dedicated professionals as indicated by the highest scores in “Meaning and Purpose” (WM= 3.61) yet face substantial physical challenges. Overall well-being, Multi-dimensional rest, and Workload mean scores obtained were 3.37 (Agree), 3.15 (Agree) and 2.19 (Disagree) respectively. Interestingly, physical rest scored the lowest in sector means (WM=2.81), which suggests inadequate rest ad energy renewal despite feeling good about their lives. Pearson r correlation analysis established significant negative correlation between workload and well-being (r= -0.263, p <0.05) and workload and rest (r= -0.373, p <0.05).

On the other hand, rest was found to be the major factor determining well-being (r=0.0684, p <0.05). The highlighted rejuvenation is the primary mediator of well-being among nurse educators. It can be concluded that excessive job commitment masking the physical exhaustion experienced by nurse educators. To address this problem, the researcher proposes adopting the Holistic Faculty Rejuvenation Program (HFRP). Some important recommendations include creating a “protective” working environment through “Right to Disconnect” programs, establishing “Clinical Decompression Rooms,” and conducting “Cognitive Load Audits.”
