The Governance of Reasoning: Foundations of Epistemic Engineering
Authors/Creators
Description
This book proposes Epistemic Engineering as a new formal discipline: the design, implementation, comparison, and experimental validation of procedures that assign epistemic status to claims. The central thesis is that reasoning is a governance problem, not an optimization problem. The models are interchangeable — the constitution is the invariant.
The framework is grounded in over 5,000 governed deliberations across 29 scientific domains, producing 26 peer-registered papers with DOIs and SHA-256 chain of custody. The book establishes the foundational vocabulary, design principles, and research agenda for a discipline that treats reasoning itself as infrastructure to be designed, validated, and governed.
This is not philosophy about science. This is engineering specification for the architecture of valid inference.
