Walter Benjamins Lehrerin Helene Pufahl

This German-language research note reconstructs the life, family background, and later residences of Helene Pufahl, remembered by Walter Benjamin in “Zwei Rätselbilder” of the Paris typescript of Berliner Kindheit um neunzehnhundert. Drawing on Berlin address books, genealogical records, church books, death registers, newspapers, and other archival and printed sources, it identifies Pufahl’s full name, life dates, family relations, professional trajectory, and residence in the women’s housing cooperative “Haus in der Sonne” in Neubabelsberg. The note is intended as a source-based contribution to Walter Benjamin scholarship and as a citable first public record of these findings.
