Safety Margins of Solar Eclipse Glasses: Multi-Instrument Evidence for Ageing, Batch Heterogeneity and Updated ISO Compliance
Authors/Creators
Description
This record contains the full reproducibility package associated with the manuscript “Safety Margins of Solar Eclipse Glasses: Multi-Instrument Evidence for Ageing, Batch Heterogeneity and Updated ISO Compliance”, draft v57.
The package includes the LaTeX manuscript, bibliography, generated PDF, input data, source and processed datasets, analysis scripts, generated figures, instrument manuals, preparatory technical reports, checksums, file inventories and reproducibility documentation.
The study evaluates the optical performance, ageing behaviour, batch variability and compliance margins of solar eclipse glasses and solar viewers using three complementary measurement approaches: spectral transmittance measurements at LICA-UCM, spectral measurements from IO-CSIC, and transmission-density screening with a Heiland TRD-Z densitometer. The analysis compares archived and recently acquired samples, including modern market samples and specific 2026 extreme cases, and evaluates their readiness with respect to the ISO 12312-2:2015 visible criterion and the proposed ISO/DIS 12312-2:2025 / Chou 2021 / PNE visible-transmittance window.
This version is intended to support transparency, traceability and reproducibility of the manuscript results. It includes the source data needed to reproduce the principal figures and tables, including spectral-analysis ECSV files, IO-CSIC input data, processed densitometer summaries, generated plots and the final manuscript source.
Important note: this package is provided for scientific reproducibility and transparency. The measurements and screening analyses reported here are not a substitute for formal product certification by an accredited notified body. Compliance probabilities and densitometer-based readiness indicators should be interpreted as scientific screening and risk-assessment outputs, not as official certification results. This record is published to stimulate the discussion about the safety and performance of eclipse glasses. Any errors detected would be fixed as soon as possible, and previous versions would be amended. A peer-reviewed publication would result from it as soon as the authors are satisfied with the results.
Technical info
All data and code required to reproduce the principal analyses, figures and tables are provided in this Zenodo record. The package includes the LaTeX manuscript source, generated figures, spectral-analysis files, IO-CSIC input data, processed densitometer data, analysis scripts, checksums, file inventories and reproducibility documentation. Some third-party manuals and preparatory reports are included only for methodological traceability and remain subject to their original rights and citation requirements.
