Description
Abstract
Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist is a novel that has transcended cultural and linguistic barriers to become a global literary phenomenon. First published in Portuguese in 1988, the novel has since been translated into numerous languages and has resonated with readers worldwide. This paper critically examines the novel's central themes, literary style, and philosophical underpinnings, focusing on its allegorical nature and the concept of the "Personal Legend." Additionally, the paper explores how Coelho's narrative structure and use of symbolism contribute to the novel's universal appeal.
