Description
42. Augochlora (Augochlora) repandirostris (Vachal, 1911)
(Figs. 47–48, 73A)
Halictus repandirostris Vachal, 1911. Lectotype, ♀ (MNHP) from Bolivia, Mapiri. Subsequent designation: Moure & Hurd (1987). Examined
Diagnosis. The species is assigned to the A. repandirostris species group. Augochlora repandirostris shares with A. capixaba sp. nov. an entirely carinate metapostnotum; and a supraclypeal area with strong purplish iridescence in both sexes (Fig.s 47–48). Males with a long dark transverse band on clypeus (~ 1.7 OD). From A. capixaba sp. nov., A. repandirostris can be diagnosedby the hypostomal carina not lamellate; preoccipital carina well-defined; and T2 with denser punctation. In males, T7 is yellowish, whereas in other species it is usually light brown. This species occurs in the Amazon Forest, whereas A. capixaba sp. nov. is known from the Atlantic Forest. Comments. Augochlora alexanderi Engel, 2003 was described from specimens collected in Colombia (Caquetá [Paujil]) and diagnosed based on male genitalia features (Wcislo et al. 2003). Given the wide distribution of the similar A. repandirostris, a detailed analysis is required to evaluate the potential synonym of these names.
Redescription. FEMALE (lectotype). Body length (mm) ~ 8.5. ITD (mm) = 1.80. Head. green, with cupreous and red reflections; wider than long, HW/HL = 1.09. Labrum black; basal surface rectangular, short; basal elevation transverse. Mandible, distal portion of adductor ridge moderately produced, medial portion not strongly constricted at mid-length, minimum width between 0.7x and 0.9x basal width. Glossa shorter than prementum. Malar area linear. Clypeus, apical margin prolonged over apical border; dark transverse band longer than 1.7 OD, without a medial depression; disc entirely lineate among punctures. Epistomal angle weakly protruding onto clypeus. Paraocular area with few tomentose setae; contiguously to crowded punctate, average-sized and deep punctures. Supraclypeal area mostly punctate. Frons slightly protuberant above antennal sockets. Antennae, scape with weak yellow spot at base; lengths of F2–4 combined distinctly longer than F11. Hypostomal area not lamellate; anteriorly not projected as a tooth. Preoccipital ridge carinate. Mesosoma. Main color green. Pronotum, dorsolateral angle mostly orthogonal. Mesoscutum with cupreous reflections; anterior portion rounded; disc pubescence as long as OD, yellow; anterior surface without transversal rugae; disc surface polished, bright, punctures moderate-sized, with tiny punctures intermixed, sparse (I=1–3PD). Mesepisternum, lateral surface of preepisternum punctate; hypoepimeral area punctate. Scutellum. Medial furrow absent or inconspicuous. Bipunctate. Metapostnotum, length subequal to metanotum; carinate, posterior margin raised and rugulose. Propodeum, posterior surface punctate; lateral carinae ending on the ventral half of the propodeum. Legs predominantly brown; ventral margin of mid trochanter not expanded, straight; mid femur flattened; mesofemoral brush on a straight surface; anterior and posterior surfaces of hind coxa ventrally separated by a smoothly curved area, not marked by strong angulation; hind tibia with white or yellow setae on outer surface; hind basitarsus outer surface setae only with white or yellowish setae. Wing membrane hyaline. Metasoma. T1–T5 black, with white tomentum on all terga. Reflections green, or cupreous. T1 with a faint transverse premarginal furrow; anterior surface with dense coverage of tomentose setae, punctures fine, very sparse (I>5PD); disc weakly lineolate, punctures fine, sparse (I~2–4 PD); posterior margin inflexed and not forming a tubular border. T2 not depressed under T1; disc puncticulate; sublateral portion of marginal area with punctate metallic surface distinctly as long as the dark surface. T3 with tiny setae not reaching posterior margin sublaterally. S1 almost plane along medial line.
MALE (DZUP/599345). Body size (mm)= 8. Main color green or blue. Pubescence withish. Head.Clypeus apical creamy border shorter than OD. Epistomal angle weakly protruding onto clypeus. Glossa shorter than prementum. Labrum light brown. Preoccipital carina as broad as 0.6 OD dorsally. Frons, punctation coarse and not contiguous at eye notch level. Antennae, F1 shorter than F2; F3 longer than wider; flagellomeres without sensilla placodea patches. Mesosoma. Mesoscutum, anterior portion rounded; disc sparsely punctate. Not tesselate. Mesepisternum polished; lateral surface of preepisternum punctate. Scutellum medial furrow absent or inconspicuous; as long as metanotum. Metapostnotum entirely carinate. Propodeum posterior surface contiguously punctate. Legs. Femora swollen; tibiae brown; hind tibia anterior surface without abundant tiny setae among longer setae; hind basitarsus about 5 times longer than maximum width. Light brown. Wing membrane hyaline. Metasoma. Terga dark brown with metallic reflections. T1 premarginal line as a well-defined sulcus, but not forming a “step”; posterior margin inflexed, sparsely punctate. T2 anterior surface very weakly depressed under T1; sublateral portion of marginal area with punctate metallic surface distinctly as long as dark surface. T3 blue green. T7 yellowish; bent. S1 without medial tubercle.
Distribution. This species is found in the Amazon rainforest of Brazil, Bolivia, and Peru (Fig. 73A).
