Methods of organizing a research workshop on plant biology in primary school

The article describes the methodology for organizing a research workshop on plant biology in primary school. The purpose of this article is to develop a methodology for organizing a research workshop in biology on the example of the theme «Investigation of conditions for seed germination».

The research workshop is part of the practical component of the biology course program in the 6th grade. This type of work involves independent (or with the help of adults) the work of students outside school hours. The purpose of the workshop is the acquisition of personal research experience in the process of solving cognitive tasks. The article describes the methodology for conducting a research workshop on plant biology in the main school on the topic: “Research on seed germination conditions”, which can be organized in extracurricular work at home. This workshop does not require sophisticated material support and is available for sixth grade students. The implementation of such a workshop contributes to the assimilation of the basic physiological concepts on plant biology, the formation of research culture, subject and research competence. These types of work can strengthen interdisciplinary communication, especially with such subjects as mathematics, chemistry and physics. They contribute to the development of logical thinking, form pupils' skills for analyzing and synthesizing information.

The given example of a research workshop will not cause difficulties in the organization, and will contribute to the formation of a research culture and a cognitive interest in the study of biology in students. We believe that it is imperative that before starting work with students, it is necessary to conduct introductory briefing and safety briefing when working with laboratory equipment.

Further research will be focused on the development and testing of methods of organizing other forms and methods that contribute to the formation of research competence.
